SEATTLE - "Northern Exposure" star Barry Corbin was in satisfactory condition at Harborview Medical Center after he fell off his horse and broke his left leg and left foot Friday near his home in Arlington, Snohomish County.

Nursing supervisor Mary Pilgrim said surgery would be required.

Corbin plays retired astronaut Maurice Minnifield on the television show, which is filmed in Roslyn and Redmond. He has a home in Arlington.

[Note: His accident opened the door for Moultrie Patten's character, Walt. In 5.16 Hello I Love You, originally Maurice was supposed to go to Cantwell with Ruth-Anne. Since Barry was unable to film, the stroyline of Walt courting Ruth-Anne was written in. Maurice then appears later on crutches in 5.19 The Gift of the Maggie.]
